65th National Films Awards: Malayalam bags major awards & Jayaraj chosen the best director

It was a wonderful session for Malayalam cinema, when National Film Awards got announced. As the jury, headed by Shekhar Kapoor announced the list of winners of 65th National Awards session, it brought a lot of cheers for the Malayalam film industry. The industry has bagged awards in a number of major departments. While Jayaraj was chosen the best director for the movie ‘Bhayanakam’, Fahadh Faasil adjusted the best supporting actor for his performance in ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’. Similarly, it was legendary singer KJ Yesudas, who won the award for best singer, for the movie ‘Viswasapoorvam Mansoor.’. Actress Parvathy too brought accolades to Kerala, when the jury specially mentioned her performance in ‘Take Off’.

The 65th National Awards session saw late actress Sridevi winning the best actress’s award for her performance in ‘Mom’. However, it was Bengali actor Riddhi Sen, who surprised everyone, when he received the best actor’s award. Aged 19, the actor’s performance in the movie ‘Nagarkirtan’, was described by the jury as one of the best performance in the recent history of Indian cinema. Music maestro AR Rahman went onto bag two awards in the following categories – Best music director and best background music composition. Late actor Vinod Khanna was awarded the ‘Dada Saheb Phalke’ lifetime achievement award for his contribution to Indian cinema. ‘Baahubali 2’ secured multiple awards: Popular film and Best action direction

Well, coming back to Malayalam cinema, it was a proud moment for the industry, when Sajeev Paazhoor was selected the best script writer for ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’. The Dileesh Pothen directorial was also chosen as the best Malayalam movie of the year. Jayaraj, for his movie ‘Bhayanakam’, went onto grab the award for best adapted screen play. ‘Alorukkam’ was given the best film award on social issues. Santhosh Rajan got the award for best production design. ‘Bhayanakam’ cameraman Nikhil S Praveen won the best cinematographer’s award.
