Nokku Kooli from Sudheer Karamana: Union members were dismissed

Nokku Kooli is something, which is been subject to widespread protest from round the corners. The practice of ‘Nokku Kooli’ has been declared an anti social activity by the govt. Well, the trade unions seem to be caring not much about the law and actions. Earlier, today, a group of members from various trade unions, rushed to the house of actor Sudheer Karamana’s house – under construction – near Chakka bypass in Thiruvananthapuram. They have demanded INR 1,00,000 as Nokku Kooli, which was refused by the contractor as well as family members. Though the contractor and family members protested against the demand, finally they were forced to give away INR 25,000 as Nokku Kooli. Well, the news report received widespread attention and trade union leaders have decided taking strong actions against members.

Reportedly, the trade union members involved with the incident, were suspended with immediate effect and were asked to give back the amount, they had received as Nokku Kooli. Trade union leaders were of the opinion that a group of their union members had violated the law, and were suspended by the union. The suspended members belong to the Arasumoodu unit. While CITU has suspended 14 of its union members, a total of 7 members were suspended by INTUC. Though Sudheer Karamana was not present therein, when the incident took place, he later has come up with some marked comments on the issue. Stating that such practices were highly condemnable, Sudheer Karamana said that the union members behaved indecently to the family members.

While reacting to the news reports, social media virtually celebrated the instance of union members being suspended over charging Nokku Kooli. However, many commented that it was only due to the celebrity status of Sudheer Karamana, which the instance got widespread attention. They were of the opinion that, had it been happened to a common man, it would have been a different story.
