Actors venturing to politics is not a big deal in Tamil cinema. In fact, ever since the days of MGR, films have kept a great relationship with Tamil Nadu politics. The legacy continued, when the two pillars of Tamil cinema ventured to politics recently. While the entry of Rajinikanth to politics, was much anticipated, Kamal Haasan however stunned everyone, when he jumped in to the scene all on a sudden. Both made it clear that they would not be teaming up with each other’s party as well. Now, with both the superstars trying their luck in politics, in whose side Kollywood would stand with? When questioned about the same, actor Simbu said that he won’t go with either one in politics.
It was while speaking on the Cauvery water issue, which Simbu said that he would never mind joining the political parties of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Earlier Simbu’s stance in the Cauvery issue found many takers and evoked a positive response amongst both Tamilians as well as Kannadigas. His campaign of each Kannadigas giving a glass of water to a Tamilian, created a peaceful atmosphere. A politician even called Simbu to be wiser and mature than that of both Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. However, Simbu turned down the comparisons made between him and the superstars. STR was of the opinion that since both have joined politics, they have limited scope to enter in the issue. The actor pointed out that, had they spoken like the way he did on the issue, a section of politics might have termed them as Anti – Tamilians.
Taking on the questions raised by the press, Simbu however stressed on breaking the popular image created by the media. He added that Tamilians usually believe that Kannadigas won’t give water to them and accused politicians for creating rift between common people in both the states. Speaking about his ‘Water Campaign’, Simbu maintained that he did this, because, he wanted to know whether the above mentioned myth exists or not.
