Basheerinte Premalekhanam Movie Review

Some movies take you back to the old memories, particularly a section of the audience, who are no longer called new gen boys. Yet, some movies which intentionally tries to tie you with the past, fails miserably. Do you really want to find where ‘Basheerinte Premalekhanam’ stands between these two ends? That’s a tough call.

It’s all about the 80’s – at a time, when Television sets have slowly started finding place in homes. The less in number, the more in demand! Underlining the common logic, Basheer (Farhaan Faasil) is the only guy in the whole village to have the knowledge of assembling and operating television sets. On such a journey to install a television set, he fell in love with Suhra (Sana Althaf). The rest, as usual; you won’t find it tough to crack this story, even if you don’t watch movies or don’t have the habit of reading story books. Plotted against the backdrop of eighties, ‘Basheerinte Premalekhanam’ tickles at times with situational humors; sadly, the double edged sword of over dosage heavily pulled it down.

The real drawback of the movie is the lack of freshness it oozes. Be it the characters, or the dialogues never tried to communicate anything new. It can’t be denied that there was a good scope to make a lovable tale from the plot, which however didn’t happen. Maybe, they were following the set of norms, which the preceding movies of the same genre laid back. But, relying solely on such parameters can’t help you to come up with a great product. On the flip side of everything that said above, an area in which the makers succeeded in producing the intended result was, in giving the mood of vintage times.

Characters ranging from Farhaan Fassil, Sana Althaf, Manikandan or not even the evergreen Jodi of Madhu – Sheela combo, had nothing much to do out there. Even if they had, many at a time, we saw attempts of misfire. Had they paid enough attention on the editing department, it could have generated a better impact. In the meantime, the much needed saving grace was provided by two technical sides – The cinematographic department of Sanjay Harris and that of the musical scores by Vishnu Mohan Sithara.
