Udaharanam Sujatha Review : Is an example for many
Presenting the dilemmas of an uneducated lady, Sujatha, the movie ‘Udaharanam Sujatha’ should be appreciated for the kind of effort taken by the whole team in bringing out many of the issues it deals with. Without having the glitz and glamour of commercial movies, but at the same time shedding the crudeness of parallel movies, ‘Udaharanam Sujatha’ has definitely conveyed its points clearly.
Representing the marginalized sections of slum dwellers, Sujatha (Manju Warrier) is willing to do anything for the sake of the future of her daughter Athira (Anaswara Rajan). Well, Athira finds every reason for skipping her studies – something which make Sujatha feel dejected. Like most kids out there in the school, Athira too finds tough times with Mathematics. Sujatha, who essentially had no knowledge about the subject, was all in search of a key to solve Athira’s misery. A tough task, she however finds a solution at the end, and it perfectly works out as well.
It is not a new piece of information that direct Phantom Praveen has opted for a proven story for his debut venture. Adapting the story of Hindi movie ‘Nil Battey Sannata’, ‘Udaharanam Sujatha’ will give you an insight to the kind of troubles which poses threat to the dreams of the marginalized sections of the society. No doubt that one will definitely get his dreams fulfilled, if he/she strives hard for reaching those; the case is still a complicated one for people, those who have no knowledge about the ways of achieving their dreams. In this movie, we can see the character of Sujatha going through numerous struggles to get the best for her daughter. During the journey, daughter however questions even the moral conduct of Sujatha. Well, the movie delivers a strong message that nothing can stop if a dreamer starts working seriously on his/her dreams.
While it appears to be clichéd at most parts – even resembling many of the movies which we saw during Manju Warrier’s second outing – those were too insignificant to undervalue this movie. Banking on a strong script, Phantom Praveen has pulled off the subject without any qualms and has made a commendable outing on his debut project itself. The technical side too was strong to keep the movie going. Madhu Neelakandan’s camera captured the most of Trivandrum’s Chenkalchoola, while the music of Gopi Sunder looked in touch with the mood.
As far as performances are concerned, it was all about Sujatha and Manju has effortlessly surged past the test. Appearing as a downtrodden, Sujatha’s angst and dreams were alive in the eyes of Manju and this one strongly underlines the bulk of talent she is. Anaswara Rajan too deserves to be mentioned by all means here. She acted superbly in the role of a girl, who at times fights out her mother, while at the end making her mother proud. Like the duo, movie has Mamtha, Nedumudi Venu and to name the rest doing a decent job in making ‘Udaharanam Sujatha’ a treat to watch.
