Akshay Kumar’s ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ mission continues

Off late, action khiladi Akshay Kumar has started doing projects which address social issues. It is been a while, since he has committed a mass masala entertainer. Released last year, his ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ addressed the issue of open defecation. His release this year – Padman – on the other hand, dealt with issues of sanitary pads. Both the movies earned rave reviews for the cast and crew members. In fact, the image of Akshay Kumar has evolved into an intelligent actor, from being a mass masala entertainer. The star is taking all steps to ensure that his movies spread right message to the public. While, his movies do contain social messages, Akki seems not satisfied with just on screen performance only.

Akshay Kumar has recently sponsored a row of bio toilets in Juhu beach. The toilets, which were initiated by Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray, saw Akki donating INR 10 lakh. The toilets contain three separate units for both men and women, while facility for urinals is also been provided. With this, local slum dwellers around Juhu and visitors to the beach, are sure to be relieved a lot. Though this set of bio toilets won’t address the issue completely, it wills surely encourage similar initiatives. It was only eight months ago, when Akshay’s wife Twinkle Khanna made a controversial tweet regarding open defecation. The tweet ridiculed the way, in which people defecates in open. Evidently aimed at people openly defecating in and around Juhu beach, the tweet however generated significant negative publicity. People from round the corners criticized the actress for being insensitive to the needs of poor slum dwellers around Juhu.

It seems like, her husband has finally given an answer to all those, who criticized Twinkle. Well, Akki has once again underlined, that he is not just a hero material for the big screen. Released last year ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ starred Bhumi Pednekar, was also co produced by Akshay Kumar.
